With Barbon Insurance Group's latest Corpororate Social Responsibility Stragety being introduced, BIBALet will be raising money for their chosen charity - Step by Step, a local charity that supports an empowers homeless young people and those facing advertsity.
Step by Step works with young people between the ages of 16 and 25 years, providing accommodation, training and support to enable them to progress towards independent living. Clients progress through a four step accommodation service where each step offers greater independence as they demonstrate their willingness to take more responsibility for their lives and those around them. Alongside this, the charity provides training in basic life skills to enable the young people to regain their self-esteem, stabilise their sometimes chaotic lifestyles and enter back into the community with a job or a college or a training placement.
Louise from our HR Team reports on their "Big Summer Sleep-out"...
"Tanya, Vanessa and I completed the "Big Sleep Out" for Step by Step on Friday evening, the heavens opened and it was rather wet. Although we cannot imagine what Homeless people have to endure throughout the cold winter periods, we did attempt to experience it, with our cardboard boxes (generously donated by Jim Porter) and our Tarpaulin cover to keep the rain out, we set up our own beds for the night.
We met two young people who explained how Step by Step had helped them and their experiences of homelessness. These stories bought a lump to the throat and reminded us why it is so important that our businesses are helping them to reach out to more and more young people.
